Improv Systems Announces Support for Latest SPIRIT Specifications
Jazz PSA Composer Users Can Now Create SPIRIT-Compatible Databases
BEVERLY, Mass – March 6, 2006 - Improv Systems, a leading supplier of configurable IP, today announced that its Jazz PSA Composer now fully supports the specifications for intellectual property (IP) design re-use provided by The Spirit Consortium. The support will enable designers to leverage Improv's IP for high-performance DSP design more efficiently in any SPIRIT-compatible tool flow.
Improv's Jazz PSA Composer is a graphical environment for creating custom configurations of the Jazz PSA Platform. The tool is used to configure a complete platform by combining different Jazz DSPs, embedded memories, and other peripherals into a single multiprocessor structure. With respect to each DSP, designers have detailed control over items such as 16- or 32-bit data path, the number and choice of data path elements and memory interfaces, size and types of task queues, and the number and location of distributed result registers within the core.
Improv has converted its internal Jazz PSA configuration database to a SPIRIT-compatible interface. When used in conjunction with the Jazz PSA Configuration Hints File, an implementation of the SPIRIT specification's hint capabilities, Improv's Jazz IP cores can be read into any SPIRIT-compatible tool set.
The SPIRIT Consortium is a global organization focused on establishing multi-faceted IP/tool integration standards that drive sustainable growth in electronic design. The latest SPIRIT specification defines an XML-based format that enables designers to use tools that conform to the SPIRIT specification to speed IP integration and increase design efficiency for large SoC designs.
"The SPIRIT effort has received great support across all segments of the industry and it's exciting to see innovative companies like Improv on board to help proliferate the proposed standard. We look forward to continued involvement and support from Improv as the SPIRIT specification evolves. It should be beneficial to their customers from a productivity and cost savings standpoint," said Ralph von Vignau, chairman of The SPIRIT Consortium.
"Improv Systems pioneered and patented key IP configuration and re-use concepts with Jazz PSA Composer, enabling designers to easily configure IP for integration into SoC designs," said Cary Ussery, president and CEO of Improv Systems, Inc. "As a member of the SPIRIT Consortium, Improv has worked to evolve its tools so designers can easily leverage Improv's SPIRIT-compatible IP blocks in their SoC designs."
