More Information

There are three different classes of membership.

Reviewing Member:

This is the easiest form of membership to sign up for. This membership grants your company access to early releases of the specifications.  In general, this will get you access to the proposed specifications from The Consortium up to six months earlier than the public release date.  Reviewing Membership applies to companies only.  There are no obligations, and no fees, for this class of membership.  However, we do request that you help us by reviewing the specifications!  The feedback from our Reviewing Members is a critical part of our release process.  To apply for this level of membership, you just need to agree to a Membership Agreement and IP policy of The SPIRIT Consortium.

Associate Member:

This is equivalent to Reviewing Members in terms of rights to early release specifications, and it applies to universities, research institutes and non-profit organizations.  This membership class allows an organization to participate in a project with a company or institute that provides The Consortium with review data on the early-release specifications.  There are no obligations, and no fees, for this class of membership. To apply for this level of membership, you need to classify as a university, research institute or non-profit organization, and agree to a Membership Agreement and IP policy of The SPIRIT Consortium.

Contributing Member:

The Contributing Members are the companies that help drive the creation and validation of our specifications by actively participating in our working groups.  Contributing Membership is free, but does require a strong engineering commitment.  Any Reviewing Member who wished to sign on as a Contributing Member to one of our technical working groups must submit a Contribution Statement to the Board.  Each working group is limited to 10 participating companies.  However, assuming there space available in the working group, the Contribution Statement is reviewed by the Board and the relevant technical working group chairs.  All Contribution Statements must contain at least the following:

  1. Brief overview of what your company does / provides
  2. The value The SPIRIT Consortium specifications will bring to your company
  3. The value your company will bring to The SPIRIT Consortium
  4. Any IP contribution to The SPIRIT Consortium you are considering
  5. Nominated engineering head*

* Note that we drive The SPIRIT Consortium through constantly dedicated engineering resource.  25% of an engineering head for each workgroup you are considering to join is a minimum requirement.  The Chairs of the working groups monitor each company's continued dedication to ongoing developments, and report this status into the Board.

Board Membershp

The SPIRIT Consortium has a group of companies that form the Board of Directors, elected annually by the Contributing Members. The Board is responsible for all organizational, roadmap and release decisions.  All Board member companies are eligible to participate in the Marketing Committee for The Consortium.  Board member companies do have an annual fee which is budgeted at the beginning of each calendar year based upon marketing, operational and release plans for The Consortium. For the full description of eligibility requirements and election procedures and deadlines, please see our Board Election page.

We hope that we can welcome you to our growing ranks of members! Please contact us if you have any questions about membership or the application process.
